Resolutions have been banging around in my head and bouncing off the walls of my house for a few days now. Like Dick Clark, they seem to appear out of nowhere as the clock creeps closer to midnight on December 31st.
John wants to be healthier and stop going to WaWa. We’ll see how that goes.
John and I have decided that Jack’s new years goals is to learn to walk, to sleep till 8 am and become self sufficient in all things toilet related. We can dream can’t we?
Bailey puppies goasl are to resist the urge to barking during nap time and to not lick his butt on the sofa.
As for me, I have some lofty goals for the new year. I always seem to prefer the word goals to resolutions. Resolutions seem immediate. I resolve to go to the gym every day. Then when I miss a day I feel like I've mucked up the whole resolution.
So I make goals because goals can be worked on. Goals allow room for mistakes, goals take time they don’t happen overnight.
So here are my goals for 2012 in no particular order:
To Write more. To write just for the sake of writing. Even if it doesn’t end up on the blog. To just write.
To learn to knit. I have the needles, I have the yarn, I have a how to book, so why don't I have a sweet winter hat. Hopefully by 2013 I will.
To stop wasting so much time watching TV or staring at Facebook or twitter or Pinterest. Or any other number of time zappers. The TV part should be easy One Life to Live only has 7 episodes left and when she goes off the air, so will I.
To organize and de-clutter my life. I ain't a hoarder but, by god, I have a lot of shit. My hope is to EBay, yard sale, and donate most of it. I hate trashing things that I feel people can use.
To say no when I want to say no, and to say yes when I want to say yes. Lot's of times I say yes to things I don't want to do and say no to things that I would like to do. I don't know why I do this but my personal time is precious and rare these days. So before I get up in arms looking for a sitter, I'm going to make sure I actually want to go. The opposite goes for things that I want to do, like that knitting class I keep saying I will take.
To eventually buy a new home. This house is quickly getting too small for the 3 of us. How am I ever supposed to make a new addition to my family when my house barely holds the 3 of us, plus Bailey puppy and more toys than I ever thought possible? New home must come before a new baby. Not that a new baby is coming anytime soon.
At least monthly date nights with my husband. God knows we need it.
To find a sitter. This goes along with the above goal. It isn't date night when we are both in our PJ's by 6, eating Chinese food out of the container.
To read 52 books in 1 year or a book a week. I made this goal back in 2010 and then I got pregnant and read only pregnancy books, and barely got off the couch or turned off the TV enough to do anything else.
My list feels a bit long but I don’t remember making any goals last year. If I did they were probably made while surviving off of 4 hours sleep and 3 cups of coffee, so they didn’t really count.
Here’s to making 2012 bigger, better and brighter. Cheers!
Check back this week for my 2011 year in review.
